like father like son

baby owen, you are truly your daddy's boy...look at how the both of you are sleeping. this made mommy smile so big when i caught you both sleeping next to each other like this.

today daddy went back to work after being home with the both of us for two whole weeks. we have been so lucky to have daddy around to help feed you, change your diapers, take naps with you...mommy was so impressed by daddy's love especially for you baby.

from cute to tantrum

mommy and daddy cherish the moments that you are awake and so alert. it is priceless when you are staring into our eyes or if you're observing the lights above you.

sometimes you are so chill and relaxed for a bit until...

...you start getting a little fussy. here you are with your infamous pirate eye- this makes mommy and daddy crack up every time.

then the grand finale of the full on loud screeching cry. usually you only cry this way when we change your diaper or if you're super hungry and you want your food immediately. even when you're crying, mommy and daddy love you so much. you're still so cute when you are crying your eyes and lungs out.

baby bunny

baby owen, you love the new swing mommy and daddy bought you. you always fall asleep in it which mommy and daddy love. most of all, you look so dang cute in the bunny chair.

awww...peaceful baby makes for happy parents. we love you baby.

first week

during your first week of life at home, your cousins josephine and elijah came to meet you for the very first time. aunt annie couldn't wait to meet you. josephine is only a few months older than you but she looks so much bigger than you here!

we had lots and lots of naps...yes baby, we means mommy and daddy too! naps kept mommy and daddy's sanity alive to take care of you in the best way possible.

your great grandmother came over to visit you. she kept asking mommy why we waited so long to have you...she is clearly so in love with you baby.

you had your first sponge bath at home. thank goodness your maternal grandmother was here to be an extra hand and show mommy and daddy the ropes. it was priceless watching you when you got your hair shampooed. i think you like that part best.

we went to your first doctor visit and you did great except when mommy had to take off all your clothes to get you weighed. the best part too was that right before you met with the doctor, you had a very smelly poo-poo diaper to change.

this is you and daddy in the waiting room at the doctor's office. you received so many compliments while you were sleeping. we love you baby owen so much!

home sweet home

baby owen, we left the hospital four days after you were born which happened to be valentines day this year. it was a beautiful day for your first ride home.

i think daddy was most excited to take you home. all the nurses got such a kick out of your daddy's sense of humor.

here you are in your going home outfit {thank you aunt grace for the outfit and lara for the hat}.
awww baby...home sweet home in your little moses basket. you did great on your ride home and had great naps when we got to your new humble abode.

sphere of influence

baby owen, you are so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing men that you can look up to. we were so privileged to have pastor dave come as your first visitor at the hospital on your birthday. his prayer and words of encouragement for you was such a blessing.

this is your uncle james {he is daddy's brother} who will hopefully come to your soccer games one day. he is an amazing father to your cousins marin and colette. mommy and daddy learned a lot on parenting just by watching uncle james take care of his girls.

this is your uncle joey {he is mommy's younger brother} who stopped by to visit you in the midst of his busy school schedule. uncle joey is a stud in basketball and volleyball especially when he was in high school. lets count on him spending lots of time with you to play sports when you get older.

this is uncle chris who is one of daddy's good friends. they've known each other since elementary school. uncle chris has always been there for both me and daddy. uncle chris will also be at your soccer games one day especially since him and daddy played soccer together when they were young.

last but not least, this is your uncle robert and uncle stephan. they have been praying for you since you were in mommy's belly. both these uncles are true men of God and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.

staycation

during our stay at the hospital, there were so many moments to capture in your first few days of life. mommy will try to edit and not go too crazy. i loved moments like these because you were so sleepy for everything...feeding, burping and even photo taking.

mommy loved every moment of cuddling with you. we had a lot of skin to skin time which the hospital encouraged lots of.

look at you and daddy on day two. daddy was pooped after a long night of no sleep and still being sick he made sure to wear his mask with you all the time.

mommy was always awake during sunrise after feeding you and changing your diaper. i cherished the time i had reflecting on the blessing of you in our lives with this amazing view in sight.

mommy was hoping to have the iphone before your arrival so i can take cool photos like this one but all your aunties captured awesome moments of you with mommy.

this is you in rare form with both of your eyes open within the first few days. we weren't able to see this at the hospital but we had the joy of witnessing this as soon as we got home on valentine's day. thank you baby for the flowers that you and daddy surprised me with!

february 10th 2011

dear baby owen benjamin lee, you were born on thursday, february 10th 2011 at 10:12am at hoag hospital in newport beach. you were 7 pounds 5 ounces and 19 inches long. the doctor did not expect you be to be that big! mommy and daddy fell in love with you at first sight.

everyone was so eager to meet you baby. all your aunties, uncles, cousins and grandparents rushed over as soon as they could to love on you and take tons of photos of you!

on your first day, you were sleeping away so peacefully. you were so calm daddy thought 'this is going to be easy!' little did he know that your second day was going to be another story...

mommy and daddy never let you out of our sight. all we wanted to do is hold you and kiss you all day. your birth and arrival was one of the happiest days of our lives!

we are so thankful to God for you baby. the day you were born, the sun was shining all day--it was a gorgeous day to be born on {daddy was so tempted to take you out to the beach for the day}. mommy and daddy got lucky too with an ocean view room just as mommy hoped for. God truly romanced us in every way with the gift of you!

life verse

dear baby owen, mommy and daddy have been thinking about which life verse/s we want to dedicate to you. this is one of mommy's favorite verses/passages- 'the lord is the everlasting god the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.' isaiah 40: 28-31 {photo courtesy of mstetson design}

this is one of daddy's favorite verses- 'trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.' proverbs 3:5-6 {photo courtesy of mstetson design}

hoag newport

today was mommy's last appointment at dr. wheeler's office before your arrival this thursday. you did great on the fetal non stress test this morning. janine the nurse practitioner said that you were a healthy and happy baby this morning. mommy has been going to their office twice a week for the past couple of months so i told all the staff that i'm going to miss seeing them so often. above is a photo of where you will be born- at hoag hospital in newport beach. some people refer to it as 'the hotel' because of the amazing staff and service. owen, if we're lucky we might get a room with an ocean view.

here is a photo of mommy's doctor, dr. jonathan wheeler, who will be delivering you. dr. wheeler is a renowned doctor and has been practicing for over 20 years. he's delivered over 5,000 babies in his career so far {that's averaging 250 babies a year!}. we are so lucky to have him as our doctor.

moses

when mommy and daddy first started dating in 2005, mommy went with daddy's family to philadelphia, pennsylvania {this is the city your daddy was born in} for your paternal great grandmother's 90th birthday. your great grandmother is an amazing woman of prayer spending hours every day praying for her family, the church and even for the president and our nation. ever since your daddy was young, your great grandmother always called your daddy 'moses' which was her special korean/christian name for him. mommy and daddy thought it would be special for your korean name to officially be 'moses' with much love and respect for daddy's grandmother.

this is a photo of your daddy, grandfather peter, your great grandmother and uncle james in front of your great grandfather's grave site. when daddy and uncle james were younger, your great grandfather took care of both of them full time. your great grandfather was known to be one of the classiest men sewing/tailoring suits for the young boys, having them listen to classical music and truly shaping them to who they are today.

mommy really wishes i had the opportunity to meet and know daddy's grandfather--it would have been such a joy for him to meet you baby owen! for now, we will remember his legacy through grandfather peter and the fond memories your daddy has of your great grandfather.

happy birthday week

baby owen, you will be sharing your birthday week with lots of family! the day before your birthday is your paternal grandmother and aunt jane's birthday and on your actual birthday {if you don't arrive sooner} you will be sharing with your paternal great grandmother! this will help all of family to remember each other's birthdays a lot easier. last night we did an early birthday celebration for your grandmother and aunt jane. mommy and daddy told them that their birthday gift is coming on thursday, the tenth of february.

five days counting

five days until we get to meet you baby owen...we are so excited! mommy wants to remember some of the things mommy and daddy are doing this last weekend before your arrival. one important event to remember {at least for daddy} is the super bowl xlv between the pittsburgh steelers and green bay packers today. mommy isn't too familiar with all the sport jargon that daddy is into but i know its supposed to be an exciting game. daddy is super excited for one of his last hall passes with his buddies before you come {just kidding daddy, you will definitely have more hall passes in the future}. mommy will use today as a hall pass for sure.

last night, mommy and daddy went to mindy's farewell party. mindy is moving to san francisco next week- the day after you are born. we are so thankful she will be able to meet you and love on you for a day then we will be seeing her off to new and exciting adventures in sf. mindy has been one of the biggest blessings in both our lives. she has been such a good friend in countless ways. we're going to miss her but wish her all the best and hopes she visits a lot!

whos your daddy

baby owen, mommy hopes that you take after your daddy...for one, he is a loyal friend to all. some of daddy's friends in the photo here are childhood friends from elementary school- that is over 25 years ago! mommy loves this photo because it shows how cool and stylish your daddy is.

six months after mommy and daddy got married in 2007, we both had the privilege of going on a mission trip to uganda, africa. watching your daddy love on all the people and children blew mommy away especially because it was daddy's first mission trip ever! daddy's compassion for others was so genuine and made such an impact- it was a blessing to witness.

mommy is so thankful every day for the wonderful husband that your daddy is. daddy has taught mommy so much about life and love through his actions. daddy is constantly sacrificing so much for mommy...i promise you owen that daddy already loves you more than himself.

daddy loves having a good time...he will go where the sun is and a cold brewski awaiting. daddy loves watching his sports- especially the lakers and angels. when daddy laughs, it is contagious. daddy is extroverted and social- he can make friends with anyone. daddy knows how to live life to the fullest--he will have so much to teach you baby.
